Children & Family Ministries

Exuberant or sleepy, reserved or off-the-wall, crying, cooing, giggly, wiggly, mismatched shoes, Halloween costumes and all, when we say, “all are welcome and cherished here,” we mean it! We are a church for families of all shapes and sizes and we understand how difficult it can be to pull it all together and get here.

What happens on a Sunday morning?
Whether you arrive early or late, after parking a block away, upon entering the tall, white front doors you’ll be warmly welcomed by greeters who can point you toward the welcome table. Up the short, wide stairway leading to the sanctuary are ushers who will hand you a worship bulletin and can also show you the nearby children’s book shelves containing activity bags, stuffed animals and story books your child can take with them into worship. You’re welcome to sit where you’d like and come and go from the sanctuary during the service. Little ones might enjoy sitting up front to better see and participate in all that is going on; the moving about as we pass the peace, the sights and sounds of various groups leading music including the children’s choirs, the hymn singing, storytelling and praying, the joyous celebration of baptisms and the sharing of communion which knits us together as God’s beloved family. We often include a special “time with the children”, and hope your child will feel comfortable joining in with the crowd coming forward for their own special message. Adults are welcome, too!
Do you have a nursery?
For those who would rather have a more relaxed worship experience, we provide loving, quality childcare for babies, toddlers and preschoolers with engaging story-telling, calming music and activities during the worship hour. Just ask. One of our members will show you the way and introduce you to our wonderful professional childcare staff.
Do you offer Sunday School?
Our Spirit-filled Sunday School program is offered throughout the school year for older preschool aged children through eighth grade. After the first portion of worship, children and youth are invited to follow their talented fun-loving volunteer teachers and parent helpers to brightly decorated classrooms on the other side of the sanctuary’s two front doors. Parents are welcome to follow their child and stay with them as long as they’d like.

We strive to nurture children’s spiritual inquisitiveness throughout their developmental stages. Creating space for learners to be open to God’s spirit, we value their unique abilities, interests, insights and questions. Through spiritual practice, bible exploration, fun-filled activity and service we encourage them to know and love God, to contemplate ancient biblical and modern day faith stories, to feel at home and welcome others wholeheartedly into this community, and share in word and deed God’s goodness as followers of Jesus.
