Welcome to South Church

Welcome to South Church

Every Sunday morning, we begin worship with a simple statement:

“Whether you are young or old, gay or straight, single or partnered, happy or sad, believing or doubting, you are welcome here.”

South Church may be 307 years old, but our thinking isn’t. We believe that loving God with all your heart doesn’t mean you can’t use all of your head, too. If you agree, we’d love to see you around South Church.

Worship is at the heart of who we are at South Church. Church should leave you inspired, comforted, challenged and refreshed. It should feel surprisingly relevant while being rooted in our Christian heritage. We promise you and your family will discover the radical hospitality and deep faith we’re so proud of here at South Church. It’s a safe space for you to question, learn, grow, and explore.

Need to experience a bit more of worship before coming through our doors? Follow our Facebook page as we launch our new live streaming and mobile app this Fall, and listen to our weekly Podcast, Standing Under the Word. (You can listen to it on Soundcloud or subscribe through the Podcast app on your iPhone or Google Play on an Android phone.) You’ll hear each Sunday sermon and a conversation with the preacher.

Worship isn’t just for adults. Jesus believed children held a special role in the community and we agree. Your whole family is invited to stay throughout all of worship and take part in everything we do together. We have books and toys to keep little hands busy in pews. If you’d prefer, we have a fun and faithful Sunday School for Pre-K through 8th Grade and a professionally staffed nursery for children 4 and under. Fill our our contact form below.

Our youth face so many pressures in today’s world: In school, on the field and online. Our Youth Groups are structured not only to help our youth grow in faith, but also to give them a safe space to ask hard questions, make new friends and mentors, and have fun, all in a judgment free environment. Our Minister of Youth and Families, Jenn Murray, would love to tell you more: Fill our our contact form below.

Let Dana, Alex, or  Laura Jordan ( Lauradj813 [at] gmail.com) know of your interest.   If you have not already done so, we ask that you attend the newcomer gatherings (offered twice a year) sometime during your 1st year of membership.

Additionally, we offer opportunities to join as an official Covenant Partner/Member of the church every third Sunday of the month. We ask the folks either join our small group or attend our two, after church, classes to introduce new folks to one another and learn more about what makes South Church different from other congregations.

Our Minister of Music, Cathy Meyer is so excited to lead our new Cherub Choir and Carol Choir programs here at South Church.

The Cherub Choir is for kids age 0-5 and their parents/caregivers. Music is always more special when it can be enjoyed as a family. Kids can play, and enjoy music and movement with a parent, grandparent or another caregivers. It’s a great opportunity for kids and families to make music together at an early age.

The Carol Choir is for kids K-Grade 5. Cathy will continue to help youth develop their music skills as they sing age appropriate and fun music in a welcoming environment.

Of course, our music program doesn’t stop at grade 5. There are opportunities for musicians of all ages and skills to jump into the program. Fill our our contact form below.

Affordable Housing Project
In 2017, South Church took the unprecedented step of selling a portion of our property to build six affordable housing units. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity and Andover Community Trust, we break ground on these life-changing units  and your family is invited to help us welcome our new neighbors. Volunteers 16 years of age and older are welcome to sign up with a parent or adult chaperone on the work site. Fill our our contact form below to learn more.

Giving Garden
In 2015, South Church began an initiative to bring fresh, sustainable produce to our neighbors in the Merrimack Valley. The Giving Garden –  at  660 Great Pond Rd in North Andover on the grounds of the Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center – produced over 5,000 lbs of produce last year for our mission partner: Neighbors in Need.
